Character Crafting: How Behaviours Can Be Caught, Taught and Sought with Helen Holder

January 20, 2025 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm GMT

The pace of change is increasing, new technologies are emerging, communication methods are adapting….. Amidst this rapid social and technological change, there has never been a better time to adopt practical approaches to building and maintaining the behaviours at the heart of the BA profession.

Although I am an experienced BA, changes to ways of working brought about by the pandemic knocked my confidence, impacting my ability to confidently challenge assumptions, or build relationships as effectively as I once had.

I realised the personal qualities associated with my role were not simply innate and, just like the professional toolkit we use as BAs, needed to be developed and maintained. Cue the beginning of a character education journey, creating a personal strengths inventory and character passport to guide my development.

This session encourages a growth mindset in relation to behaviours, looking at how we might develop positive character traits through learning and practice.

Key Takeaways:

✔️Review of the behaviours defined within the BA competency set to drive understanding of how character crafting can support our role as BAs

✔️Introduce the 24 VIA Character Strengths, sharing my own approach of using these to conduct a personal strengths inventory and ‘Character Passport’

✔️Lead attendees in an interactive exercise to create their own inventory and kick start their character journey, with practical advice on how to create and track character development opportunities
