Most organisations don’t have a lack of problems to solve or opportunities to seize. With a seemingly unlimited number of projects that could be executed, and often a limited budget, project selection becomes crucial.
Traditional approaches to project selection focus on ‘cost’ and ‘financial benefit’ and can be traced back to economic concepts from the 1800s. Today’s decision makers need approaches that reflect the complicated human and environmental contexts in which projects are run. As well as financial cost and profit, it is crucial to consider stakeholders, risk, ethics, and bias. Further, funding requirements are evolving to include demonstration of better societal outcomes, sustainability, and resilience.
In this conversational webinar, Dr Alexia Nalewaik (author of Strategic Project Analysis: A Powerful Set of Cost-Benefit Tools and Techniques for Managers) presents a rationale for broadening traditional cost-focused project analysis to include non-financial planned benefits, requiring the use of both quantitative and qualitative methods. If you’ve ever felt your organisation’s business cases are ‘stale’ or ‘checkbox’, this is a webinar for you!
